Pro Life for All of Life

Something that you get to do as a pastor is hear people’s stories, challenge people to forge new stories, and celebrate the highlights of people’s stories. This past Sunday, I was so blessed by the story of two couples that have taken active and engaging steps to stand in the gap for hurting kids in our community.

See, often the Pro-Life movement in the United States gets accused of being pro life at only one point of life. And while I think defending the unborn is a worthy engagement, if that is all we do to promote life, we have missed a pretty significant part of Jesus’ clear value of life as a whole. If we are going to fight for the unborn, we should fight for the born, too.

Sunday, I got the opportunity to present and pray over two couples in our church who have decided to stand in the gap for foster kids. To be people who provide a place for kids to heal, to get nourishment for their bodies and investment in their souls as these kids are in their care.

I’m so proud of these two families and the great number of other families I have the joy of being connected to that are standing in the gap for kids in the foster system and as adoptive homes. Seeking to help a kid get into their forever home where they can be loved and cherished is not easy work. And I’m so proud of the Villaneuva’s and Lambert’s for taking this step.
